Bernhard Langer was set to play in his final Masters Tournament this week. That put him a stroke ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, the reigning United States Open champion at the time, who consistently out-drove Langer by about 100 yards all week. Instead, the perennially fit Langer was felled by something that has likely taken down some of his Florida neighbors who aren’t two-time Masters champions: a pickleball injury. A neighbor who is a foot and ankle surgeon ran over when he saw Langer drop to the ground and sent Langer for an M.R.I. He had torn his Achilles’ tendon, and the doctor got him into a stabilizing boot so he wouldn’t injure his foot further.

CNN —Veteran golfer Bernhard Langer was due to play at The Masters for the final time this year, but a pickleball injury derailed his hopes of competing at next month’s tournament. The 66-year-old Langer, who won the green jacket in 1985 and 1993, would have been making his 41st appearance at The Masters had he not torn his Achilles while playing pickleball. “I play all sorts of sports to stay fit and this was part of my fitness regime,” Langer told the Musings on Golf podcast. Langer said that he has been making “very good” progress since undergoing surgery and will attend the annual champions dinner at Augusta National next month. The Masters, the first golf major of the calendar year, will take place between April 11 and 14 in Augusta, Georgia.

(AP) — Bernhard Langer tore his Achilles tendon while exercising and had surgery on Friday, putting the 66-year-old German out of golf during a year he planned to play the Masters one last time. Langer last year broke Hale Irwin's record for PGA Tour Champions victories when he won twice to reach 46 titles on the 50-and-older circuit. Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

NEW YORK, June 29 (Reuters) - Alkermes (ALKS.O) beat back activist investor Sarissa Capital Management's boardroom challenge on Thursday when shareholders re-elected all of the biotechnology company's directors in one of the year's most closely watched votes. But investors stuck by the company, which is valued at $5.4 billion, and returned all directors to their seats on the 11-member board. Glass Lewis, ISS's smaller rival, recommended shareholders back all Alkermes directors. Biogen shareholders this week elected Denner's romantic partner, Susan Langer, to fill his seat on the Biogen board after the board had nominated her. Both ISS and Glass Lewis referenced the Biogen matter in their recommendations on how to vote at Alkermes.

The move eliminates "any claim of conflict whatsoever," Sarissa wrote to Alkermes shareholders on Tuesday.
